This Great Blue Heron impaled a catfish, then proceeded to swish it around a few times before unsuccessfully trying to swallow it. After coughing it back up, it repeatedly harpooned the fish in violent fashion, rinsing it between each harpooning session. It would then gag on the fish once again and repeat the whole process. Finally, after about 4 rounds of harpoon, rinse, and repeat, it successfully swallowed the catfish. The heron was likely disarming the catfish's barbed fins, which contain a somewhat venomous mucus.
