The American Avocet that spent a few days in a flooded farm field across from Pikul's farm in Rowley was very cooperative for me. As I pulled up my car up alongside the field, I saw it was rather close and hastily tried to put my 400 mm lens on my camera. As I finished, the Avocet actually approached closer and closer, until it was as close in the flooded part of the field to my car as it could possibly get. It proceeded to eat a few small invertebrates and also cooperatively ate a large earthworm, which it struggled to swallow for quite some time. It took the earthworm to a deeper puddle multiple times to swish it around before finally succeeding in getting it down the hatch. The next day as I was passing through, the Avocet was much further out, but a few pipits were running around in the field along the edge of the road.
