Little Life and Death

Came upon a Red-tailed Hawk entangled by a coachwhip snake (1st picture). Redtail looked pretty still, so unwound it from the coachwhip. The Redtail stood up (2nd picture), but when I dropped the snake to frame some more pictures, the Redtail came over and grabbed the snake again (third picture). They ended up in dual head-locks (fifth to end pictures). After taking a few more pictures, let them be, but looked like the Redtail had the edge.

damn! those are amazing photos! I can't believe the two creatures let you get that close to take pictures, and then let you touch them, without trying to lash out at you. Fascinating. Thanks for sharing these, Joe.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I would have let them be completely. The snake had an outside edge of pulling off the upset until you unwound the hawk.
