Horned Grebes during molt in spring (during March) can lead some birders to identify them as Eared Grebes. This set depicts three photos of a Horned Grebe initially identified as an Eared Grebe. In the first photo, the bird appears thin billed, with a peak in its head plumage; other field marks were also used. The error in ID has appeared in other cases on eBird for spring records in CO (for a presumed early arrival) and PA (latter where Eared is a vagrant).
