When the Rotating Service Structure (RSS) is in place, only a small portion of the Orbiter's wings can be seen (left). To the right is the SRB's External Tank Attach (ETA) Ring. This ring attaches the SRB to the ET and counteracts lateral loads produced during launch. This ring also holds the towback strut (silver), where the SRB recovery ships tie onto for towback to KSC.
