pbase When I am old I will wear purple Feb 10 2007.jpg

Jenny Joseph Poem, Warning

Warning!
When I am Old
I will wear Purple!

When I am an old woman,
I shall wear purple - -
With a red hat which doesn't go,
and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension
on brandy and summer gloves and satin sandles,
And say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
and gobble up samples in shops
and press alarm bells
and run with my stick along public railings,
and make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
and pick flowers in other people's gardens
and learn to spit!

Still frozen over here..

I've considered joining a Red Hat group, love that poem.
Love this image too.

My mom was in the Red Hat Ladies! I know this one well. Nicely done.

I love that poem because I'm already old. :) A beautiful photographic expression of it. The aged hand on red with the purple fingernails. V.

Very well thought out Joan, and a great sentiment too.

I've always enjoyed the lightheartedness of that poem. older age should be fun.

If we're lucky enough to make it to that age, then we shall all wear purple at some point. Metaphorically speaking, that is.

Still frozen here, too!
