A few pictures from short visits to "Number Four", part of the Constitution Hill complex in Johannesburg.
This is the prison complex (now a museum) where thousands of black men were imprisoned... it is also the place where many learned to survive and defy their jailors. Many of the prisoners were guilty of non-political crimes, but many fell foul of race laws or were guilty of resisting these laws, such as Mahatma Gandhi and Robert Subukwe. (Quoting from the Visitor Brochure)
A disturbing and deeply emotional experience. But I will definitely be visiting again... to explore more of this Hill...
