The 12v outlet in the car didn't have enough juice, so I cut the plug off and wired it directly to the battery.

Good idea. Thermal insulation on the battery - probably common place to you, but first time I've seen it. That looks like Gorilla tape rather than duct tape; great stuff.

Wow, that's a lot bigger than the inverter I have. Does it power your blow dryer?
