I love the Great Plains and have read accounts of early trappers and explorers describing herds of bison as far as the eye could see. By the late 1800's the bison were virtually wiped out,
with only a small number of wild animals remaining in Yellowstone Park. There are no really large herds of free roaming bison left in the U.S.,
but Yellowstone is still home to a few thousand animals. Many of the bison photos here are of animals living in Yellowstone National Park.
