Goldfinch

66% crop

Trying out the Nikkor 500mm f4/P plus Nikon TC-16A. This gives 800mm @ f6.4. A little soft but acceptable.
The autofocus at 40 feet operates within around 18 inches or so in front and behind the plane of focus, roughly 3 feet which is good enough for minor manual focus discrepencies to be corrected. The autofocus is faster than screwdriver lenses but slower than my 70-200 VR, still, plenty quick enough! The D2x is quick focusing though so another camera may not be as quick. Using a Slik Pro 700 and a Manfrotto 393 Gimbal head, I could never hand hold this beast!
