It was the rainy season, but still, it was amazing how wet the ground was even on the steep sides of 2500+ meter mountains. Much of our trek in fact was through swampy muck. This photo is taken after reaching the peak of a long, muddy climb. My heart sank when I saw that what faced us next was not an easy descent but a two kilometer slog across a plateau-top swamp.
