A Drive Through Titus Canyon

The rock formations are not the most colorful in the world; regardless, I highly recommend taking a trip through Titus canyon. So why does a visit to Titus canyon rate a recommendation if the formations are not all that good looking? Well, because this is one REALLY cool drive. The trip starts by driving a couple of thousand feet up and then you zig-zag downhill about a mile until reaching the finish line in Death Valley.

If you are driving from Beatty, NV towards Death Valley NP the dirt road to Titus Canyon starts about three or four miles past the turn-off to Rhyolite. The road to Titus canyon is pretty wide for about the first six miles; important note ... please be VERY aware that it's technically a one-way road. The road narrows down when you get into the canyon area and although a 4X4 is nice, IMO it's not necessary. What is absolutely necessary is a reasonably high clearance vehicle with brakes that work.

IMPORTANT, please note ... whenever you visit a Pbase gallery for the first time, or if you have clicked on a size smaller than "original size" while visiting this or any other Pbase gallery, please be sure to click on "original" size, otherwise you will be presented with a low quality JPEG as versus the high quality JPEG (the size doesn't change, only the quality level of the JPEG compression); you only have to do this once, on the very first picture you look at.

Alternatively, on the very first picture you can add "/original" to the URL in the address bar and hit "refresh" or "go" as the case may be; again, you only have to do this once (on the very first picture). This "/original to the URL" approach is the sure-fire/no-mistake/best way to ensure you will see the highest quality JPEG presentation.
