Raccoon at Lovers Key State Park
Fort Myers Beach, Florida USA
I learned from volunteers at the park that the raccoon is not a desirable
participant as it will dig up turtle nests and eat the eggs before they hatch.
This creature was extremely difficult to capture with the angle I had.
It took about fifteen to get this best shot of the bunch with the "red eye"
a true color that was captured by my camera.
A Raccoon was attributed to having raided the nest of the American Oystercatcher
which was observed to be breeding at LKSP in 2008 after efforts were made to attract
the nesting event through decoys. The ultimate success of the bird pair
is unknown to me at this point.
