Canon

Why Canon system? I started with Film Minolta SLR in 1998. When digital wave came, this brand disappointed me by delaying the release of DSLR.(finally this brand became Sony DSLR). Then I changed my entire system to Canon 10D.(3rd generation of "budget" DSLR at that time D30, D60, 10D).

I have tried in mid-2009 to go for another top brand in the photography field.
As I am now more towards shooting general and kids, I do not need the top speed of EOS1 series camera. For the other top brand, if I were to buy the entry level DSLR, the mount is restricted to the latest lens with internal motor focus .For their older lens (its restricted to manual focus) unless I get the mid to high range DSLR. However the lens built of the other top brand is really good even their entry level lens.

As for Canon, on the other hand, the entry level DSLR is able to accept both EFS or EF lens. This means I am able to get more choices espeically in the 2nd hand market. All my previous setup are bought used. The funny thing in Singapore is that most people take great care of the equipment unless the professionals. So as Canon is the top seller in DSLR, i can easily get good budget and quality stuff from the 2nd hand market. I took advantage of people upgrading their equipment with the latest technology. And regarding high megapixels, I personally feel it's a sale gimmick. I started my digital with EOS10D(6 MP) and has tried a 40D(10MP).And seriously this doesn't matter to me as the print I does is at most A4 size. I personally have seen a poster size print (shot by D60 Canon 6MP). The quality is amazing. What matter most is the reaction of the camera(AF speed, easy to use).

BTW, the Canon Service at Harbour front is very professional and good! I remember once my 1Dmark2's shutter failed during my shoot in 2007 dec, I went there at 830am but the service starts at 930am, the staff open the door for me and actually still service me. Well Done Canon!

2009/dec- I am currently using Panasonic lumix G system as my main camera. However, for sports and event shoots, I will still use or rent Canon DSLR equipment due to their range of lens and Af Speed.

Disclaimer- Above mentioned is my own experience. End of the day, photography is all about the lighting and how to maximise the potential of the camera.
