I just don’t get it. I don’t understand how a community can turn it’s back on it’s school system. The school board here did make a mistake 10 years ago. They caused taxes to increase without a vote in order to build a new elementary campus. They didn’t steal money, they didn’t mismanage money, they built schools for the kids. The community likes to vote levies down around here to get even I guess. Trouble is, a levy hasn’t passed in 19 years, long before this happened.

19 years. Think about that. No new money for almost two decades. How is any school system supposed to function on that? Midview is very good at what they do and my girls love their school and love their friends but they are going to be forced into a new disctrict if the levy doesn’t pass on Feb. 5th. If that levy doesn’t pass ALL extra curricular activities will be cut and the school days will be slashed to 5 1/2 hr. days, the bare bones state minimum. Who are the voters getting even with at this point?

What makes me even more sick is that Midview reports that only 36% of student’s parents are registered to vote. Really? 36%? Hopefully that number has increased since Midview has been trying to register people but in all honesty, if those people haven’t voted thus far in their lives, I’m not holding out hope.

Look folks, it’s time to bury the hatchet. Get over it. Yeah, you got screwed over 10 years ago. It happens. To make the kids suffer like this is reprehensible. Strong schools make strong communities. If this levy doesn’t pass, have fun watching your home values head further into the basement than you ever thought possible. There will be a mass exodus from that school and from the community. If this levy fails, my house will be for sale by March 1st. Believe that.

This levy will cost the owner of a $150,000 house $450/year. You spend that much on Starbuck’s and other meaningless drivel. Make an investment in your community for once. Nineteen years is long enough. I think they get it. You were pissed.

For once, consider the kids instead of the school board.

Do the right thing Midview.

IF SOMEONE DOES NOT WANT THE LEVY AND INTENDS TO LEAVE...YOU BETTER VOTE FOR IT AND THEN SELL YOUR HOME BECAUSE IT WILL BE WORTHLESS....

So on point.. thank you to posted this. I might have graduated last year, but Midview is still my school. I have so much hope that this levy will pass. I have made so many life long memories at Midview and I can only pray that the kids younger than me can do the same.

As the mother of a senior at Midview, I have seen the wonderful work these schools do. My son was one of the first students at the new elementary schools, and to be honest I don't care how they were paid for, they are an investment in our community. My other son is a sophmore at LCCC Early College and he won't graduate from Midview...but guess what...I'm still voting YES!!! These schools need this community to rally behind them, and whether I have kids there or not, we will!!!

Larkin you need to send this to the paper. That was very well said. These people don't get it. It's the kids that will suffer. If this levy fails, we will be open enrolling in another district for sure. Unfortunately who will want to buy our houses in this district??

Good luck brother.

Well said!! The kids are the bottom line! Money issues should not be used as leverage against the administration, the board, the teachers. . .It should be all about the kids. I just don't understand people who are too short-sighted to provide money to insure that Midview's students are prepared for college, for jobs, to be productive citizens. They need to get their priorities right!! Thanks again! I hope your message hits home for a few people and will change their no to a yes!!

What I don't understand is that people want the school to do all kinds of things to increase security and safety at the schools but want somebody else to pay for it. Armed guards, law enforcement, firearms trained teacher... All that stuff costs money.
Lake Ridge is a great option. Speaking of them, they used one of Seth's photos on their Christmas card this year.

Good luck Jim, I have seen this in other areas, sometime people don't realize how much their home value depends on the schools in the district!
