This crosscut saw vise can be clamped to a bench. I clamp it to a fixed wood plank about 48" high and use a 6" high step/platform on the floor if I need the vice lower in relation to me.
The vise can be clamped to the brackets in the vertical, sloped back 45 degrees or horizontal positions.
The advantages are:
It is only four feet long but will easily hold 7' and longer saws.
It will hold a one man saw without taking the D handle off.
It takes up very little space.
It is very cheap to build.. Just 4' of 2x10 and some odd pieces and bracket and clamps for mounting on a bench..
It is open faced. It can be placed horizontal to work on a face or for setting teeth.
It clamps to a bench and the height of the filer is easily adjusted with a simple step.
Probably the main disadvantage is that long saws will need the be shifted end wise to work on the very ends but that just takes a couple seconds.
