After a 100 years of US Forest Service horse and mule use in the north Gifford Pinchot National Forest, the last four horses are being transferred to another ranger district in Eastern Washington. With modern transportation and a network of logging roads most areas of the forest are accessible without stock. For the remote areas that require stock for access or for the packing of materials, local Backcountry Horsemen volunteers are available to help out.
