This is in fact an old (probably W-Class) tram from Melbourne, in the State of Victoria in Australia. Trams such as this one were the only kind in the fleet across the entire network of tram routes when I was a schoolboy more than forty years ago. A small number are still in service on the City Circle line, as the tourist tram that travels around the edges of the CBD of Melbourne and provides a commentary on the passing places of historical interest to visitors from elsewhere. I know that a few of the old carriages are now in use in Seattle and San Francisco as novelty local drawcards. (In fact, I think that I once spotted the familiar conveyance in the background of a brief scene in an episode of 'Frasier'!)
