"Stronger" refers to bending strength based on geometric section properties (section modulus), not material strength of Aluminum alloy. Also, the "strength" does not consider the possibility of premature collapse of the thin flange(s) due to instability (buckling).

Actual bending tests would be worthwhile. Would demonstrate the actual strength, including the material strength of the aluminum alloy.
