2007-06-12 South of Columbia, SC and 2007-06-16 south of Nahunta, GA. On the 12th, I visited a very small site south of Columbia, SC where dozens of Platanthera lacera were in full bloom. The area is about 100' x 500', so you see why I say it was small. On the 16th, I drove seven hours (each way) to photograph Gymnadeniopsis nivea (Platanthera nivea) off Hwy. 301 in southern Georgia. The nivea were in short supply and in fairly poor shape due to the extended drought in the area. Where there were literally thousands of plants a couple of years ago, I found only two dozen or so this year.
