2007-04-17 Final field trip of the 6th annual NOC symposium - Everglades National Park.

Here is a group of shots of several orchid species we managed to see while in the Everglades National Park in south Florida. Eventhough Florida has many more orchid species than any other state in the U.S., not all are blooming at any one time. We did see many epiphytes in bloom as well as our old familiar terrestrial orchid, Calopogon tuberosus, but this time it was the variety of Calopogon tuberosus called simpsonii, which is found only in southernmost Florida. It was especially nice for me to be able to study and photograph this one, since it is the last of the Calopogon species that I had not previously seen. Just to keep things interesting, I threw in a photo of a menacing "critter" that we saw on our last day there.
