Odonata

This gallery makes me a little nervous. I am not an entomologist (though I'd love to portray one on TV), and I'll bet that a couple of these are misidentified. Back in the days before I was a PBase member, I labeled these with genus and species names on the images themselves. In some cases, that may have been an expression of overconfidence, especially with some of the spreadwing damselflies. Please contact me and let me know if there are any errors you can spot.

That said, I love photographing these bugs. I really loved it back when my Olympus C-2500L worked. That camera had the best close-up lens on a digital camera I've ever experienced. The Nikon Coolpix focused closer, but the Olympus was easier to use. If anyone knows of a place that will still repair the C-2500L, let me know -- Olympus doesn't. That's one sad aspect to the era of digital photography -- that fine camera is virtually obsolete, six years after its debut.

The photos are in alphabetical order based on their common names, which has led to a mix of damsels and dragons. So be it.

Thanks, Mark, Simon and Domitille for the suggestion to upload these.
