The whole of southeast Gomera is drier, scrubbier and as magnificently shaped as the rest of the island. It's also nearly empty. The views we got on a drive back up from Playa de Santiago were exceptional, and inviting. When we drove back a few days later to hike, though, the mist was so thick we couldn't find a trail!
