Before leaving, we both reread Bernal Diaz's The Conquest of New Spain, which invests the city with so much added significance. It was completely unplanned -- just great luck -- to stumble upon the Totonac voladores doing their magnificent flying trick in Chapultepec Park, since we've been mesmerized by Bruce Lane's videos of them for a couple of years now. And of course, there are Diego Rivera murals galore. In all, the city was vibrant, fun, electric and welcoming. Thanks, AJ, for the personal tour of the Dolores Olmedo Museum! |
