ONE FOR THE SCOT IN YOU

OLD FLETTON, ENGLAND

How to follow yesterdays PaD, I gave up trying to better it.
I spotted this flowering thistle when I reviseted one of my childhood play areas.
In an ever changing world I am happy to say that 45 years on I found lots of,
now isolated, things that have not changed one bit, they seem much smaller now,
but the whole world looks big through the eyes of a ten year old.

This is actually a Teasel; it is in a different plant family from the thistles. Teasel heads used to be attached to tools to card wool for spinning. It is painstaking work to get rid of a patch of these biennial or perennial plants, because not only does each plant put out flower heads almost ALL year, but also the flowers (each head here is a spiral of hundreds) mature sequentially, and thus it seems ALWAYS to be producing seeds.

Why... it's a teasel! Nicely captured, Jim
