Twizel Castle

One of the lesser known castles in the North East, it is still an impressive structure! It is an 18th century folly, started in about 1770 by Sir Francis Blake, but never finished. At the heart of the building is a much older structure, that of a medieval house. It had walls about 1.5m thick and some its features can still be seen through the later work, including doorways and blocked windows.
