I shot these photographs while driving in Lancaster County, PA. Although it is not normally acceptable to photograph the Amish people I hope they will forgive my transgression. It is truly a fascinating culture and lifestyle.
“There can be no assumption that today's majority is "right" and the Amish and others like them are "wrong." A way of life that is odd or even erratic but interferes with no rights or interests of others is not to be condemned because it is different.”
Very tastefully presented, Chantal. I live within the Amish community in our area of New York State. It is a joy for me to travel amongst them with camera in hand. It is a matter of knowing who objects and who doesn't "really." I have had young men come right up to me and ask to have a photo taken. :o) Then, there are times I KNOW when to walk away. I have several galleries of Amish images, Chantal, if you are interested. One is of photos taken in Lancaster County in the fall.
Don't worry about "transgressions." They are also very quick at turning their heads if indeed they would prefer it was not happening.
