It is a bland photo because the light condition was tough and I guess the sun was not placed above your shoulder. It will not look good with either -1/3 or +1/3 exposure anyway, but I still prefer a bright face with even brighter background over a dark face with correctly exposed bright background, then again it is just me. Extensive PS will have to kick in to save the photo under either circumstance. Looks like you deletedhttp://www4.pbase.com/jiangweiwei/image/38984528 as I look at your gallery now, which I remember did not have a bright background, where I believe +1/3 or +1 exposure would work. I would like to experiment different exposure compensation setting with different light conditions and not to be adamant about sticking with single exposure compensation setting since under tough light condition the camera metering system is often cheated to give not so accurate exposure reading on your main subject. Certainly PS can work magic sometimes, but IMHO being up front with good exposure for each shot generates more keepers. thank u for the advice. 38984525 has a very bright background. increase the exposure will only make matter worse. fill in flash might help. Playing with the curve or changing the level locally in CS could alleviate the problem a bit. 38984525 is underexposed. it is a very bland photo to begin with though. sure a lot of people like to underexpose a little with portrait shooting. but many pictures here look just too much underexposed. http://www4.pbase.com/jiangweiwei/image/38984528 http://www4.pbase.com/jiangweiwei/image/38984525 weiwei's face looks dark in those pictures, perhaps because she was standing in the shadow on a cloudy day? I thought +1/3 exposure might light up the face a little. Just my $0.02. hope you can get some weiwei mug shot like anna did http://www.pbase.com/annayu2/faces

I AM using Canon EF 70-200 F2.8 IS lens. I turned down the sharpness a bit when they are processed from RAW. +1/3 exposure? I usually use -1/3 exposure to preserve more information.

Please use EF 135 f/2L or EF 200 f/1.8L, we want to see every tiny pore on WeiWei's face. Your pictures are not sharp enough. EF 70-200 f/2.8 is too heavy for your hand? Get a good prime. Light and fast. Open up aperture, +1/3 exposure, How sweet can that be?

Don't take too much into photos. It was probably the weather...which was freezing cold in New England. Everyone looks less animated when they can't feel their faces:)

I cannot find the spirit in Wei's eyes in this gallery. It was always in her eyes before. Why missing?

As always, I enjoyed your photos. Wei looked very comfortable and relaxed in front of your camera. I like her eyes the most, not very big, but cute. Thanks for sharing them with us.
