Submerged paths

Borrowdale, Cumbria

The bridge at the centre of the picture carries a footpath over the River Derwent. We had planned to cross the bridge and then walk on the riverside path to Grange in Borrowdale but the area all around Derwentwater was badly flooded. Derwentwater itself was so high it was spilling onto the Borrrowdale Road which I have never seen before and nor had any of the locals we spoke to.

I have heard so much about the flooding, and seen photos, it is incredible. Your shot is particularly compelling, with the cow grazing seemingly oblivious to the high water. V

There has been so much flooding over the past three weekends with the storms we have had. This scene looks very deep indeed, John. Sorry you could not do the walk! V

Cripes! It's been a hard few weeks right across the UK...stay safe John!

From this perspective, looks like you would have to swim out to the bridge and then walk right back into the water! V
