This church dates from the late 1700s but there has been a place of worship here for centuries. There are monoliths from an ancient stone circle in the boundary walls. Ysbyty is Welsh for hospice or hospital and it is thought that this site was a refuge for travelling monks from the Strata Florida Abbey around 15 miles to the south.
