Nice shot. The second time I saw one of these--this time with a macro lens--I was so excited I could barely shoot. The first time--by the way--I was nearly convinced it was a "flying lobster." At least that's how I found myself describing it.
I like your use of available light. I tend to be using the flash crutch, but I love the background on yours. Something to work towards next spring. Sigh.

I'm playing catch up with limited internet access while on vacation. I'd love to catch a Gypsee moth in this colorful setting! Beautiful.

Great work.

not bad at all, considering the difficulty. :)

So gorgeous, Jeffery! The movement on the wings is beautiful and the DOF makes the foreground really stand out wonderfully.

have to see it first... excellent image Jeffery.
petesie15-Aug-2005 01:19
Amen to that....I don't even see them very often....you did an amazing job of capturing this beauty. Well done.

They may be tough to shoot but you got it just about perfect. I have only ever seen 1 and then I had my first digi a Agfa with just 3/4 mil pixels and v.small lens, result best left unsaid.

Yes, very hard to get them. Specially when the wind is strong like in my case:

but IMHO you did a great Job.
Cheers

Wow! Excellent capture. You're right, clearwing hummingbird moths are hard to get.
Carmen14-Aug-2005 23:50
...but you got him good! I've been stalking one all weekend and haven't come this close. Great shot. Amazing and interesting little moths, aren't they?
