Vermilion Cliffs National Monument – Arizona

Vermilion Cliffs National Monument, run by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), is a wilderness park with the most recognizable feature being the 2000 foot brightly colored cliffs running for 30 miles to the south and the east which stands out along US 89A. The plateau itself is mostly accessible by 4-wheel drive vehicles but one can view the impressive cliffs from the highway.

The park feature which is most well known is called The Wave, a sandstone formation on the slopes of the Coyote Buttes. To protect this fragile area, access is strictly controlled by the BLM which uses a permit system allowing only sixty-four individuals to visit the site each day.
