Lyndon B. Johnson Historical Park – Texas

The Johnson family has resided in the Hill Country of Texas for over a century. On August 27, 1908 the man who would become the 36th President of the United States was born in a small house along the Pedernales River. Later, moving to his boyhood home in Johnson City, the town named after his grandfather’s nephew James Polk Johnson, Lyndon Banes Johnson would become a Texas Representative in 1937, Senator in 1949, Vice President in 1961 and then President in 1963. As president LBJ spent some of his time at the “Texas White House” on his ranch not far from where he was born. He and his wife “Lady Bird” are buried within sight of his birthplace.

The Lyndon B. Johnson Historical Park is split into two districts, the Ranch District and Johnson City District, which cover the history of LBJ’s entire life. Unfortunately, the “Texas White House” has been closed since 2017 for renovations so I was not able to tour or view it.
