Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield – Missouri

Images of Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield – Missouri, taken in September 2024.

Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield is the site of the first Civil War battle in the state of Missouri. The battle, which culminated after a five-hour fight at Bloody Hill, not only resulted in a Confederate victory but also in the death of Union Brigadier General Nathaniel Lyon, the first Union General to die in the Civil War. Although victorious, Southern forces were not able to capitalize on their success, and Missouri remained a Northern state.
