Lincoln Home National Historic Site – Illinois

Lincoln Home National Historic Site protects the neighborhood around the intersection of Jackson and Eighth Streets where the only home Abraham Lincoln ever owned sits. He and Mary Todd Lincoln lived in the home, with their four children, while Abraham practiced law, served in the Illinois House of Representatives and the United States House of Representatives. It was in the home’s parlor in 1860 that a delegation of the Republican Party Convention formally notified Lincoln that he had been selected as their candidate for president. Subsequently he was selected as the 16th president of the United States and the family moved to Washington D.C. After his assassination in 1865 his funeral procession passed by the house on the way to his resting place in nearby Oak Ridge Cemetery.
