On my way to visiting Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie in Fort Sumter National Monument I inadvertently visited some very interesting areas near the city of Charleston South Carolina. My ferry to Fort Sumter left from Patriots Point where the USS Yorktown, one of 24 Essex-class aircraft carriers built during World War II, is moored alongside the destroyer USS Laffey. And to get to Patriots Point from where my RV was parked, I had to cross over the Arthur Ravenel Jr Bridge which connects downtown Charleston to Mount Pleasant. The cable-stayed bridge over the Cooper River has a 1,546-foot main span which makes it the third longest cable-stayed bridge in the Western Hemisphere.

Then, while visiting Fort Moultrie, I just happened to see a lighthouse in the distance and was drawn to it; heading towards Folly Beach and Morris Island I ended up at the Charleston County Lighthouse Inlet Heritage Preserve, one-quarter of a mile from a view of the lighthouse. It was a pretty interesting quarter-of-a-mile as every inch of the old road was covered in graffiti. Ultimately the colorful road led me to the beach and a view of the Morris Island Lighthouse as well as the sight of a pretty skillful wind surfer.
