Statue of Liberty National Monument protects both Ellis and Liberty Islands with the crown jewel being the Statue of Liberty itself. A gift from the French government, built in Paris then disassembled and reassembled in New York Harbor, it was dedicated in 1886. Standing 305 feet including the pedestal it stands on and the fort below it, at the time it was the tallest building in New York City and the tallest statue in the world. The statue itself is made of a 3/32-inch copper shell layered on an interior structure and is 151 feet tall making it the 52nd tallest statue in the world today.

Honoring the ideals of freedom and liberty it became the beacon to those “yearning to breath free” and was the sight many immigrants anxiously waited to see as they entered New York Harbor. The torch lit the way and the seven points on the crown on the statue’s head represent the seven different freedoms: civil, moral, national, natural, personal, political, and religious.

Starting out early in the morning I viewed the statue under cloudy skies which eventually opened up to allow me to photograph it under light wispy clouds with a blue background. It is truly an awe-inspiring site from all viewpoints and every angle; many of which you will find I have captured here…
