Federal Hall National Memorial – New York

Images of Federal Hall National Memorial – Southern New York, taken in May 2022.

On April 30, 1789 George Washington took the oath of office as the first President of the United States in a building built in 1703 for the British royal governor’s office and the assembly of New York. In 1790 the Bill of Rights, the first amendments to the Constitution, were ratified in this building. Later known as Federal Hall, it was demolished in 1812 and replaced in 1842.
