Empire State Building – New York

Images of the Empire State Building – Southeastern New York, taken in May 2022.

When construction of the Empire State Building was completed in 1931, the 102-story Art Deco skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan was the world’s tallest building. Today at 1,454 feet tall, including the antenna, it is the seventh-tallest building in New York City, the ninth-tallest in the United States and the 49th-tallest in the world.

Even with much taller buildings like One World Trade Center (the Freedom Tower) on Manhattan Island I chose to visit the observation deck of the ‘OG’ of skyscrapers, the Empire State Building. Located in Midtown Manhattan, its 86th floor open air observation deck gave me great views of lower Manhattan to the south as well as sweeping views of the rest of the area. I also visited the enclosed deck on the 102nd floor for a slightly different, and higher, view and dropped by the King Kong exhibit to see who was getting swept away by the great ape.
