Minute Man National Historical Park, between the cities of Lexington and Concord Massachusetts, is where the first skirmishes between colonial minute men and British Regulars took place to start the American Revolutionary War. It was at the North Bridge where the two sides came together and the British killed two colonials prompting the militia officer in charge to order his men to return fire; an act of treason against the British government later referred to as the “shot heard round the world”. It is also in this area where, hours earlier, Paul Revere was captured by the British while on his midnight ride to warn colonist inland that the British were coming to capture stored weapons. In one long day the birth of a fledgling nation had begun to take its first steps towards independence.
