2022 Interesting Stuff Along the Way (I SAW)

This year was different from any of my other years on the road. First of all, I was fighting knee and back problems which limited my mobility (I spent over $1000 on Uber rides in and around New York City alone) and secondly, I was primarily on the east coast where there was more detailed history than expansive scenery; a lot of battlefields and a lot of forts.

New York City was definitely my busiest and most interesting single stop; besides visiting five national monuments I went to a taping of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert at the Ed Sullivan Theater and to Chelsea Handler’s ‘Vaccinated and Horny’ Tour. Then there were the ‘bucket list’ visits to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty and a Broadway show.

The biggest surprise for me this year was getting through the summer without getting knocked off course by a hurricane, and it wasn’t even close as the hurricane season was unusually quiet. The humidity on the other hand was stifling, especially for someone who calls Arizona home!

Not at all surprising was how much more this summer cost me than in previous years. Now I knew heading to the east coast, and specifically visiting New York City, Boston and Philadelphia, was going to cost me in elevated RV park costs, however, the cost of diesel was double the previous year and it seemed like just about every highway in the northeast was a toll road. Just to go over the George Washington Bridge and through New York City in my RV, about ten miles, cost me $88! Then of course, there were the aforementioned Uber rides…

Along with dropping in on friends and relatives throughout the summer, I made a trip through my 63rd National Park (of 63) and visited my 105th National Monument (of 130); a successful east coast tour focusing primarily on the history of the American Revolution and the Civil War.

So, once again here is the much-anticipated end of year gallery of images I simply don’t know what else to do with…the things I SAW in 2022…the History-Battlefield-Fort-a-Palooza Tour edition!

Wow! A great collection of images from another successful and epic tour. Quite a difference from many of the National Park vistas, but certainly interesting. I think this compilation really shows the unending variety of our nation, and I live the Space x Falcon 9 launch captured from Arizona. That is a masterpiece, and demonstrates the breadth of your craft - well done!
