Glacier National Park, Logan Pass – Montana (2021)

Logan Pass is the crown jewel along the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park. Anchored by Clements Mountain to the north and Reynolds Mountain to the south, with alpine meadows in between and glacial valley views in the distance, the area is one of the many highlights in the park.

Because of its beauty, Logan Pass is also the most popular place in the park. When I set out to hike to Hidden Lake from the pass I had to leave where I was staying in the town of Kalispell at 3:30 a.m. to make the hour and a half drive and secure a parking space at the visitor center before it filled up at 6:00 a.m. It turns out my primary destination, the view at Hidden Lake, was disappointing because of the cloud cover but the bookends of my trip were much more exciting. Before my hike I viewed the sunrise painting the mountains in dramatic fashion, and on the way back to my coveted parking space I ran into several Bighorn Sheep grazing next to the trail. Add to those seeing chipmunks, squirrels, a marmot, weathered trees and wildflowers along mountain streams and you have the idyllic setting which is Logan Pass.
