Yosemite National Park – Glacier Point – California (2019)

At an elevation of 7,214 feet the view from Glacier Point is unique and incredible! As you look directly down into the Yosemite Valley, Yosemite Falls is on your left and Half Dome looms directly in front of you with Nevada and Vernal Falls and a multitude of granite domes and mountaintops to the right. It’s hard to explain and almost as hard to believe even as you view it with your own eyes.

I made the trip to Glacier Point twice during my stay; the first time I hiked the Taft Point/Sentinel Dome Loop Trail which takes you along the canyon rim and up to the top of Sentinel Dome where you get a 360 degree view of the valley and the surrounding area. But it was at Glacier Point where I ran across a bear with two cubs and where I saw an interesting phenomenon at the base of Nevada Falls; the sun reflecting the light from the mist at the base of the falls with the colors of the rainbow. I’ve seen rainbows over waterfalls before but never anything like this where the colors were dispersed in blobs, for lack of a better word, at the base of the falls. To coin a new term I will call it a ‘blobbow’. No doubt this will make me famous and lead to some major award. Nevertheless, it really was quite amazing and made for an interesting image.
