Sonoran Desert Bloom – Arizona

When one thinks of the desert southwest it usually evokes words like desolate, dry, foreboding… Actually that’s not true as the desert is always teeming with incredible plants and animals; cactus like the great giant Saguaro and the prickly Cholla, and animals like the Rattlesnake, Gila Monster and Javelina or wild pig. And what most people don’t realize is that when spring comes to the desert it explodes with color! Tucson is located in the Sonoran Desert and April and May means that the desert is bursting with wildflowers, cactus flowers; trees and bushes are blooming…everywhere you look there are colorful flowers and fruits.

Normally I am on the road by the end of March so I miss this spectacular show but this year I’m leaving a month later than usual and I have been rewarded with the yearly desert bloom. Now I didn’t have to go far to get these pictures, in fact I just stepped out of my RV as everything presented here was photographed within about fifty yards of my front door…right in my own back yard!
