Rainbow Bridge National Monument – Utah

After a two and one half hour boat ride on Lake Powell from Wahweap Arizona you eventually dock in a tight Utah canyon in Rainbow Bridge National Monument. A trail, starting on the water, leads you a mile into the canyon where you come upon one of the largest natural bridge formations in the world. Standing 290 feet above the creek bed and stretching 275 feet across the canyon, Rainbow Bridge is a beautiful and awe inspiring sight. Heading toward the Navajo Sandstone formation the sun was backlighting the huge arch giving it a dark orange hue but as the trail wound around behind it the brilliant sunlight revealed the true color. Framed by the clear deep blue sky it was magnificent! It is no wonder that Native Americans consider this a sacred place.
