Lake Mead National Recreation Area – Nevada / Arizona (2018)

Lake Mead National Recreational Area extends into both Nevada and Arizona and encompasses all of Lake Mead which was created when the Colorado River was dammed by Hoover Dam.

I took a ride into the park, guided by my high school friend Tom, on Nevada Highway 165 which led us to Lake Mohave and a great view of the Black Mountains. We then doubled back through Boulder City to catch sunset on Hoover Dam only to find out that the damn road to the damn observation deck was closed that night for damn construction. I’ve seen the dam before but not from the new bypass bridge which was still under construction the last time I passed through here ten years ago. I guess that experience will have to wait for another damn time…
