Battle of the Little Bighorn - Real Bird Reenactment – Montana

Once a year, on the anniversary of the battle, the Crow Nation organizes and performs the Real Bird Reenactment of the Battle of the Little Bighorn. 2018 marked 142 years since this famous battle was fought and I was lucky enough to be in the area to attend this spectacular event.

Participants included Indians of the Crow Nation and a group of men who were part of a one week 7th Cavalry camp. The battle was staged on land belonging to the Crow Nation and was preceded by a history of the events leading up to the battle acted out by a cast of over 100 people.

The battle reenactment itself was swift, as was the actual event, as the troops of the 7th Cavalry were outnumbered and overwhelmed by the warriors of the Indian Nations comprised of the combined forces of the Lakota, Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes.
