Mt. Whitney and the Eastern Sierras – California

Images of Mt. Whitney and the Eastern Sierras – Central California, taken in September 2018.

On my way to the Manzanar National Historic Site I drove along US Highway 395 which sits just east of the Sierra Mountain Range. Unlike the west side of the range which is lush by comparison and hosts Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks, the east side is made up of lowland deserts and high granite peaks. Most prominent of all Mt. Whitney (14,494 ft), the highest summit in the contiguous United States, can be viewed just past several other impressive peaks which make up the Eastern Sierra Range.
