Fort Ord National Monument – California

This area served as a military field artillery training site through 1940 and later as a basic training site for US Army troops. The fort was decommissioned in 1991 and then became Fort Ord National Monument administered by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The monument has been left undeveloped and today is primarily crisscrossed by trails although part of the park remains closed to public use because of “munition hazards”.
