North Cascades Highway – Washington

Some of the most dramatic views in the area are along the North Cascades Highway on the east side of North Cascades National Park. The highway comes out of North Cascades National Park and runs along its eastern boundary south toward the town of Winthrop. Mountains on the west side of the road are in the park until you get to the Washington Pass area where you enter a 180 turn at Copper Pass. This is where you see the dramatic Kangaroo and Snagtooth Ranges as well as the Early Winter Spires and Liberty Bell Mountain, two very recognizable landmarks.

Since the North Cascades Highway is the only passable road that runs through the park I also took the Mount Baker Scenic Highway to the north which allows for a view of a Mount Shuksan inside the park from Heather Meadows at the Mount Baker Ski area.
